Our Curriculum
Grace Preschool follows the Illinois Early Learning Standards for Early Childhood Education. These standards were developed by the Illinois State Board of Education with the assistance of hundreds of educators. They provide teachers information to be used in the classroom.
Each month we will list some of the standards we have been focusing on in the classroom. This will give parents an even better idea of what is being accomplished in the classroom. These will be listed on the back of the monthly lesson plans/calendar and posted on the bulletin board above the sign - in desk. Many standards will be repeated throughout the year and will not be listed every month.
The following are focal points for March
- Retell information in a story
- Show independent interest in reading – related activities
- Dictate stories and experiences.
- Solve simple mathematical problems
- Incorporate estimating and measuring activities into play.
- Sort and classify objects by a variety of properties. Find and name locations with simple words, such as “near”.
- Recall information about the immediate past.
- Describe the effects of forces in nature (e.g. wind, gravity and magnetism).
- Follow simple safety rules while participating in activities.
- Use creative arts as an avenue for self-expression.
